Lead trainer Jim Molloy has over twenty years experience in the health and fitness industry. He is a firm believer in continuous education, always striving to be up to date with developments in the fitness, massage and rehabilitation fields in order to best serve his clients.
We operate from a custom built personal training studio in Erskine. This facility has all the equipment needed to deliver challenging and enjoyable sessions, designed around client needs. Since it is a private facility it allows us to maximise our time together, eliminating the need to wait for equipment in a busy gym. This also gives clients space and time to build confidence for when they move into a gym to train on their own.
I want personal training to be affordable and enjoyable. In order to achieve that I offer a variety of different training methods and packages including 1-2-1 training, couple (buddy system training), and or online training.
One of my goals as a trainer is to educate clients how to train effectively and confidently on their own, in their own gym. With that in mind, one of my most popular packages combines 1-2-1 training in our private studio, with an individually designed program to be completed by the client in their own gym. This includes regular support via email, text, phone and online. This is a great way to build confidence and keep costs realistic.
Maximum Effect is not just about training. We take a holistic approach to wellness, and believe what you do outside of the gym is just as important as what you do in it. The private studio is a relaxed and comfortable venue for working on your fitness goals and nutritional knowledge. We also offer a wide range of sport and remedial therapies such as sport and Swedish massage, KCR (kinetic chain release). All of these can be a perfect way to recuperate from injury, assist in injury prevention or to de-stress and pamper yourself with a well deserved massage to chill out and relax.
I’ve been involved in the fitness industry for over 20 years now. I qualified in 1991, and over the years I’ve seen ALL the fads and fashions come and go. I’ve been there, done that and got the photos in lycra to prove it! I started in the industry as a gym and class instructor and have taught various classes over the years including circuits, boxercise, step aerobics and pilates.
I’ve worked in various different venues, and also independently. For the last sixteen years I have worked at the prestigious Cameron House Hotel and The Carrick Spa Resort. Both of which are five star resorts on Loch Lomond. I introduced both personal training and pilates to these venues. Pilates has continued to be so popular that there is a waiting list for classes and I continue to have a growing client list for personal training.
Throughout my career in fitness, I’ve never stopped learning. As new research and information comes out I’m increasing my knowledge, implementing it with my clients to maximise the potential in every program written.
When I first started personal training it was something that the rich and famous did, not something for everyone. Thankfully perceptions have changed and with more people coming into the industry every year it’s become more common to work with a trainer. This is something I’m excited about as I want everyone to experience what it’s like to work one on one with a trainer.
I’ve stayed in this industry for so many years because I still have have a passion for it. I love helping people achieve their goals. I truly believe that personal training should be an education. It’s satisfying to watch clients develop not just physically but also in so many other ways. It’s fantastic to watch clients gain confidence and improve their self esteem. Some of my former clients have even gone on to become personal trainers themselves.
I believe in starting from where you are right now as each individual is different. Building a solid foundation and fostering a lifelong respect for health and fitness.
We start the fitness journey with all clients by discussing your goals and expectations. Knowing what you want to work towards then allows us to work through appropriate assessments that establish where you are right now. This gives us a reference point to look back at when you have made progress towards your goals.
Achieving your goals is as much about what you do outside the gym as within it. With that in mind, we can offer advice and support with nutrition, out of gym exercise planning, holiday training, stress management, massage therapy and much more.
I believe nutrition is the cornerstone of success and a lot of the time is the missing link in clients not fully realising their goals and seeing the results they crave. There are so many ways we can incorporate a healthy eating plan into your day to day life to achieve your goals.
My goal is to work with clients to empower them to feel in control of their fitness, so that they can walk into a gym with confidence or even get a fantastic workout while travelling with little to no equipment at all.
Personal training used to be something that ‘other people’ did. With other people being celebrities and the wealthy. The fitness industry has changed a lot over the 20 plus years I’ve been in it, but one of my favourite ways in which it has changed is that now personal training is something everyone can afford. I’m passionate about helping clients achieve their fitness goals, and personal training is the most effective way to get great results.
Who is personal training suitable for? PT is for anyone interested in improving their health and wellbeing and getting results.
Programs are highly individualised and can be written for a general or a specific goal – such as improving cardiovascular health, to increase muscle mass, to lose that last 10 pounds before a special occasion, or to complete the West Highland Way.
Whatever your goal is we will work with you to design a program around the fitness and nutritional requirements needed to achieve your goal.
My particular areas of expertise are weight loss, muscle mass gain, and rehabilitation.
I’ve worked with many clients to achieve many different goals. These goals include:
I’ve been in this industry for a long time now, and have seen all the fads come and go. I’ve trained all over the world with industry leaders and have qualifications in various disciplines.
Qualifications aside, I’ve worked with lots of clients – and that’s where I’ve really gained knowledge. This wealth of experience with clients across different age ranges and fitness levels, training for many different types of goals, has let me see what does and doesn’t work.
This helps me design programs that are tailored exactly to your abilities, goals, schedule etc. The best designed program in the world won’t work if you don’t do it. My aim is to work with you to write a program that works with your lifestyle to deliver your goals, then support you to do the program. My main aim is to get results, and to do that I need your commitment to the process.
Sessions take place in a private personal training studio, either 1-to-1 or 2-to-1. This bright and relaxed space has all the equipment needed to provide a challenging workout, with large mirrors to help you learn proper technique.
I regard personal training as an education, not an excuse to ‘beast’ you as some trainers do. What I love most about working individually with clients is coaching them in how to use equipment, to perform correct technique watching them gain confidence and fostering a lifelong respect for their fitness and health. It’s great to hear a client excited about our next session.
There are a number of ways I work with clients, depending on skill level, confidence and client goals. I would love to discuss how I could best serve your individual needs.
Massage is one of the most important tools in my skillset as a trainer, it is the perfect complement to personal training programs or pilates sessions. I’m qualified in Swedish Massage, Advanced Sports and Remedial massage and KCR, and can draw on techniques from all of these modalities to work with you to relieve pain, promote flexibility and aid recovery.
Some examples of issues that I work on with massage clients are:
Maximum Effect can provide massage for relaxation, stress management or as general self care, but we also have the skills to work on a deeper level and help injury rehabilitation and promote recovery.
Massage can be incorporated into personal training or pilates packages, please ask for details. However you do not need to be an athlete or be training regularly to enjoy the many benefits of massage. Regular massage is an excellent way of managing stress and improving health, and many of my clients have standing massage appointments or opt for one of our massage packages.
On your first appointment I will conduct an initial assessment covering current and previous injuries and relevant medical history. I will email you a consultation form prior to your appointment, to be completed and brought along on your first visit.
At the appointment, you may be asked to remove items of clothing in order that I can work on the affected area. Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes such as shorts and a t shirt. I will ensure your dignity and comfort is maintained at all times.
During the session I constantly check for areas of muscle tightness or imbalance, trigger points and restrictions. In order to ensure your safety and comfort, I will ask you for feedback throughout the appointment regarding massage pressure, temperature etc.
For these reasons the initial appointment is 60 minutes. Subsequent appointments can be booked for 30 or 60 minutes, depending on your requirements.

Joseph Pilates
This quote is the most famous one attributed to Joseph Pilates, but what is Pilates?
I’ve been a pilates teacher for 15+ years, teaching classes and one on one. Over that time I’ve seen how the industry has changed and how pilates has gone from being the best kept secret of dancers and athletes that helped them with flexibility and recovery, to being much more accessible.
Pilates is a system of movements that aims to strengthen and lengthen the body in a balanced way, with a particular focus on core strength. Regular pilates sessions can improve posture, balance and mobility.
What I love about pilates is that there are no barriers to entry – anyone can do it as each movement can be scaled down to beginner level and adapted to advanced. Everyone will benefit from incorporating pilates into their exercise routine. From golfers looking to improve their swing, to clients recovering from injury, to clients getting back into exercise post-partum. Pilates is key to improving health, strength and flexibility.
One of the best things about pilates is that it can be done both with and without equipment. In the studio I can incorporate equipment into our sessions, but can also show you how to get just as good a workout doing pilates at home with no equipment at all.
When you book a pilates session we will work specifically with your needs and abilities to achieve your fitness goals.
One of the best ways to do this is to book a package of sessions. This means that over time I can work with you individually and create a tailor made program to be delivered over one-to-one sessions in the studio, with homework for you to do in-between sessions.
This is an excellent way to recover from injury, particularly when combined with sports massage. It’s also fantastic for sports specific coaching, and I work with many golfers in the off-season to improve their swing.
